Starter Boards into Sticks

Around August, he orders these boards from his local cabinetmaker by specifying which type of wood he wants for each layer. The cabinetmaker laminates the boards for him, ready for pickup a week before Thanksgiving.

The week of Thanksgiving is Snowflake Fabrication Week.

BOARDS INTO STICKS

He slices both boards into sticks, about 54 in all.

STICK ORIENTATION

Keeping the orientation of each stick and each set of six sticks is important throughout the process.

In this next video, you can see that one end has a black line across it and the other end doesn’t. All the ends with black lines on them should be facing the same way.

Also, one side of each stick is usually lighter than the other. That also helps keep them organized so that the right cut gets made to the right part of the stick and no mistakes are made. There aren’t many spare sticks.
